Upgrade your Desktop or Buy a New One?

The average desktop PC has a lifespan from anywhere between three to eight years. As the desktop starts to run slower as time passes, how do you know if you just need to upgrade some of the settings or buy a new one all together?
There are a few things to look into when it comes to the idea of upgrade or purchase new.
One, look into the memory amount on the computer. The more memory you have, the faster data can be processed. Memory upgrades do vary in cost depending on the type of memory you want to upgrade to, or the amount of memory that needs to be updated.
Two, the amount of storage the computer has to offer. One route to take with this is to add a second drive, or external storage. Another route to take when it comes to storage is cloud-based storage.
A rule of thumb for some when it comes to upgrading, if the upgrades cost more than half of a brand new computer, pitch the old one a buy a new one. However, if you are the type of person who wants to try and update their computer, there are ways to do it.

The Many Faces of KeeperFill on Android

Using KeeperFill on Android

KeeperFill is an autofill feature that makes signing into your favorite websites a breeze. While security and convenience are maintained across all versions of Android, your user experience may vary depending on the version of Android your device is operating on. KeeperFill for Android operates in one of three ways:

1. Android 8+ (Oreo)

Android’s most recent update, Android Oreo (also known as 8.0), introduced a new feature to the product called “Autofill”. Autofill provides users a way to input login or payment information quickly without having to manually type the criteria everytime a form requests it.
Keeper worked directly with Google engineers to integrate with Autofill for filling and saving passwords. To set Keeper as your default Autofill, log in to Keeper on your device and visit the “Settings” screen.
Note: Users familiar with using KeeperFill on previous versions of Android will be quick to notice the gold Keeper lock icon will no longer appear on the right side of your device. Just tap on any login field and Android Autofill will display automatically.

2. Older versions of Android

On older versions of Android, Keeper shows a gold lock on the right side of the screen when it detects you are in an app or on a website that has login or payment information to fill. Tapping on the gold lock opens the KeeperFill keyboard showing you the records to fill.
If the gold lock doesn’t appear for some reason, you can simply tap the “Keyboard Selector” on your device and select “KeeperFill”. The location of this Keyboard Selector will vary depending on the device being used. For example, it could be on the bottom right of your device or in the notification drawer.

3. In-app

KeeperFill is also available within the Keeper app. Simply pull up your Keeper record and tap the URL. Keeper will autofill your login information from within our application.

Best Buy Canary Security System and Netgear Nighthawk DST Router

We love our neighborhood and our neighbors, but our cute little house is really old and away from the street and street lights. Even though I know we are safe, but there is always the unknown. Matt installed deadbolts on all of our doors and we felt pretty safe. Now we have a Canary Security System and last week while we were on vacation we were so glad we had the security camera.

Let me tell you a little bit about our experience. First and foremost, it is extremely simple to set up, take it out, hook it up to the wifi, download the app, create a log in on the app and that was it. This allows you to stream live video from your home at anytime. The app sends you a notification when ever there is activity at your home including movement-detection and sound-detection. When I came home and forgot to turn it to privacy mode, it picked up me unlocking the door and anytime car lights flash in the window we get a notification. It’s really awesome! If you look at the picture below this is what it looks like on your phone and then you can watch the video of what happened in your home.
The Canary also includes a 90+ dB siren that you can sound if you see someone in your house. (Note: I sounded it when I knew Matt was home and he was upset with me, so don’t do that) You can watch it live and if there is someone watching your children and you want to check in or if there is an emergency situation. Since the launch in March 2015, nearly 75 known burglaries, home invasions, caretaker abuse and other emergency situations have been captured by Canary, resulting in multiple arrests.
Last feature but one of my favorites, is the HomeHealth feature. Our house is poorly insulated, has no central air, the HomeHealth feature shows you the temperature, air quality and humidity level in your home. We really love having this system in our home, it gives us piece of mind, knowing we can see what’s going on when we are not there.
Now for my husbands favorite part of this blog post. When we received the Canary we also got the Netgear Nighthawk DST Router and DST Adapter with Geek Squad included. THIS. IS. AWESOME. Netgear and Best Buy are so smart! They created this genius idea to help consumers support all of their homes devices. The way most houses have Wi-Fi compatible devices these days it’s hard to keep everything running at the speed that everyone wants. Most families have a phone for each person, an iPad or iPod or two, a laptop and TV all running on the internet and sometimes all at the same time. Trust me when I saw this router can handle it. We have never been so lucky to have the speed necessary to support all of our devices, until now!
We received the router and when we opened it, it felt like Christmas morning! We went to the the Geek Squad website and clicked on the video there for the quick start guide. After we completed following the video, we finished up by chatting with a Geek Squad agent on GeekSquad.com. The entire setup took us about 15 to 20 minutes.
The router came with one DST or “Dead Spor Teminator,” adapter – to eliminate your Wi-Fi dead zones! The router was built to support 10+ connected devices and you can set it so it will prioritize devices for streaming videos or music. Best Buy makes it easy by providing a Wi-Fi extender and Geek Squad Set Up and Support via phone and web for an Entire Year! The Geek Squad service on the phone and web allows the customers to call or get help 24/7 whenever they want! We waited in line on Black Friday last year for a 4k TV and now with this new router, we can actually watch 4k videos and our TV no long lags when streaming videos.
Overall, I have to say I love both of these products. You should definitely consider getting these for your home! Visit Best Buy and start shopping for a huge variety of products today.
